Michele McColgan shares insights from her STEM program for middle schoolers, its COVID-driven shift to AR apps, and research on how AR aids 3D physics learning using the Mathematical Sensemaking Framework.

In this talk, Michele McColgan will describe the evaluation and surprising outcomes of her informal STEM program for middle school students. She will also mention the shift made when COVID forced them to cancel the program and how that led to the development of her MARVLS Augmented Reality Apps. They use these Apps as activities in the classroom and at outreach events. They've also developed a research plan to study how students learn 3D physics concepts using AR and the effectiveness of the AR activities using the Mathematical Sensemaking (MSM) Framework developed by Julian Gifford and Noah Finkelstein.
