American Physical Society appoints Liz Austin as chief marketing and communications officer
On June 1, 2026, the American Physical Society welcomed Liz Austin as its new chief marketing and communications officer. This newly established role on APS’ Senior Leadership Team reflects the organization’s commitment to strengthening strategic communications and marketing in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
Austin brings more than 20 years of experience leading communications, marketing, and digital transformation initiatives at mission-driven organizations. Her career spans scientific publishing, education, and performance science, with a consistent focus on connecting complex information with diverse audiences. At APS, she will work to align communications and marketing strategy with organizational strategy, continuing to build trust with the physics community.
Most recently, Austin served as chief marketing officer at Exos, where she led an integrated strategy spanning brand development, thought leadership, and audience engagement. Prior to that, she held leadership roles at Wiley, overseeing marketing for a large science, technology, and medicine portfolio, and at McGraw-Hill, where she helped guide a transition to digital-first education models.
Austin is based in northern New Jersey and enjoys the arts, volunteering in her community, gardening, and summers at the Jersey Shore.
